about cds exam

The Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers Training Academy. The exam is open to graduates as well as final year students of recognized universities.

The CDS exam consists of a written exam followed by an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB). The written exam includes subjects such as English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics for officers’ training academy, and additional papers on General Science and History, Geography, and Politics for Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy.

Candidates who qualify in the written exam are called for the SSB interview, which includes tests such as Intelligence and Personality tests, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychological tests, and Personal Interview. Based on the performance in the written exam and interview, candidates are selected for training in the respective academies.

CDS exam is considered one of the most prestigious and competitive exams in India, offering candidates an opportunity to serve in the armed forces. It requires a high level of academic knowledge, physical fitness, and personality traits like leadership and teamwork skills.
